Fragile X Symposium


The Fragile X Treatment Research Program will be holding its inaugural Fragile X Symposium, titled "Transitions and Adulthood," on Monday, Aug. 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Nashville-Vanderbilt, located at 2613 West End Avenue. This event is open to families of children, adolescents, and adults with Fragile X syndrome as well as researchers, students, community professionals, clinicians, and disability advocates. Guest speakers and topics will include:

- Nirupama Madduri, M.D., Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Developmental Medicine: "Crossing into Adulthood: A Medical and Developmental Perspective on Transitioning Individuals with Fragile X Syndrome"

- Julie Lounds Taylor, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Assistant Professor of Special Education; "A Research Update on the Transition to Adulthood for Youth with Developmental Disorders"

- Elise McMillan, J.D., Co-Director, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Director of Community Outreach, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, and Senior Associate, Department of Psychiatry: "Accessing Services and Managing the Legal Issues During the Transition to Adulthood"

- Jeremy Veenstra-VanderWeele, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, and Director of the Fragile X Treatment Research Program: "Promising Treatments Emerging for Adolescents and Adults with Fragile X Syndrome"
